Prevalence of MTP joint involvement in the painful forefoot of patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Despite the introduction of more aggressive systemic therapies for the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) MTP joint pain & deformity is commonly reported. Previous research has proposed that articular damage in the forefoot of patients with RA is probably caused by synovitis leading to destruction of the bone & soft tissues, which might result in the failure of a complex ligamentous system & the dynamic effect of displacement of the plantar plates (PP).

Forefoot disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis patients in remission: results of a cohort study
INTRODUCTION The aim of our study was to investigate the presence of disease activity in the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints of the forefoot in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients in remission according to the Disease Activity Score based on 28 joints (DAS28) remission criterion. METHODS A total of 848 patients with recent-onset RA were included from 1995 through 2007. The DAS28 and pain and ...
متن کاملFlexor Hallucis Longus tendon rupture in RA-patients is associated with MTP 1 damage and pes planus
BACKGROUND To assess the prevalence of and relation between rupture or tenosynovitis of the Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL) tendon and range of motion, deformities and joint damage of the forefoot in RA patients with foot complaints. METHODS Thirty RA patients with painful feet were analysed, their feet were examined clinically for the presence of pes planus and range of motion (ROM), radiograph...
متن کاملPlantar plate pathology is associated with erosive disease in the painful forefoot of patients with rheumatoid arthritis
BACKGROUND Disease-related foot pathology is recognised to have a significant impact on mobility and functional capacity in the majority of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The forefoot is widely affected and the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints are the most common site of symptoms. The plantar plates are the fibrocartilaginous distal attachments of the plantar fascia inserting into the...

متن کاملComputer assisted planning and custom-made surgical guide for malunited pronation deformity after first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis in rheumatoid arthritis: A case report
Arthrodesis of the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP-1) joint is a widely used procedure for the treatment of hallux valgus in patients with MTP-1 degeneration, severe or recurrent deformity, or inflammatory arthritis. In this case, ten years earlier, the patient's MTP-1 joint had been fused in a severe pronation deformity position. Subsequently, a laterally shifted tibial sesamoid and osseous ris...
